A2D2 Stream works with Sonos speakers and systems running either the Sonos S1 or Sonos S2 platform.
Sonos allows you to stream audio over your Wi-Fi network to individual speakers or grouped rooms using the Sonos system.
Sonos Platforms
Sonos S1
Sonos S1 is the original Sonos operating system used on older Sonos products. It supports single-room playback and grouping within the Sonos app, depending on the devices in your system.
Sonos S2
Sonos S2 is the newer Sonos platform. It supports newer hardware, improved performance, and expanded grouping capabilities.
A2D2 Stream is compatible with both Sonos S1 and Sonos S2 systems.
Using Sonos with A2D2 Stream
Open the A2D2 app.
Tap Sonos.
If A2D2 Stream detects a Sonos system on the same Wi-Fi network, it will display a list of available speakers and existing groups.
To start playback:
Tap the Play icon next to the speaker or group you would like to listen on.
A2D2 Stream will begin streaming automatically.
If you create speaker groups within the Sonos app, those groups will automatically appear in the A2D2 app as selectable destinations.
Important Notes
All devices must be connected to the same Wi-Fi network.
Speaker grouping is managed within the Sonos app.
Ensure your Sonos system is updated to the latest firmware.
Audio Format
A2D2 Stream will always send the highest quality audio stream your speaker supports. Sonos supports 16-bit stereo audio at 44.1kHz when streaming via A2D2 Stream.
NOTE:
Most Wi-Fi speaker systems add a small buffer before playing audio. This means the speaker stores a few seconds of audio in advance, then starts playback. This buffering is intentional and helps prevent:
Dropouts (audio cutting out)
Stuttering during brief Wi-Fi interruptions
Sync issues when playing to multiple speakers at once
Because of this, you may notice a short delay between pressing play and hearing sound. Typical delays are around 4–8 seconds, depending on your network complexity. If you are experiencing higher latency than 4-8 seconds please read our support articles by searching for latency or delayed audio.
